Our son Chris had life figured out. He was witty, smart, happy, and lived life to the fullest. He graduated from college, traveled the world, married his high school sweetheart, lived in London for 9 years, became a partner at Ernest & Young, had identical twin boys, and bought a beautiful home in Charlotte. Life could not be better. Then the unimaginable happen. Despite having no risk factors, he was diagnosed with an extremely rare and aggressive blood cancer. After months of treatment and two stem cell transplants, sadly, Chris died in November, 2018.
Not a day goes by that we don’t think of Chris . Last year, his wife joined forces with LLS and formed Team Kipphut to help raise money for cancer research. Together we raised over $57,000 by asking for donations. Because we raised so much money we got to choose how the money would be spent. We chose research. If we are not doctors how do we cure cancer? We donate!
To help achieve our goal of raising $60,000 this year, I’m offering a line of greeting cards featuring my photography. Take a peek at my cards and all the other amazing items on this website with all proceeds going to LLS this month. Let’s beat cancer together! -Mike and Laura
My younger brother Chris loved life and lit up a room with his handsome smile. He achieved Partner at E&Y at a young age, was an incredible husband and father to adorable twin 5 year old boys, was an avid beer connoisseur, ran marathons, and had a witty sense of humor.
He was only 38 when he was diagnosed with an extremely rare and aggressive type of Lymphoma. He fought hard and underwent radiation, chemo, and two blood transplants...but the science wasn't there yet, and the doctors couldn't cure him. Chris did not get his survivor story that he so desperately deserved. I miss my brother every day. I hope LLS fundraisers like this will help quickly find a cure for blood cancers and lead to many survivor stories in the future. -Michelle
Chris was my best friend. My biggest champion. My family. He was my husband and the father of my children. Together we took on the world with little fear of failing. We travelled and explored. We laughed and lived a life filled with joy. I feel lucky to have shared over 20 years with him. We had a long list of things to do in life and fighting cancer was never on it. But when presented with the challenge Chris faced it with the same focus that he gave all challenges. Even when the odds were fully stacked against him his courage and will to fight and win never faded. Remembering Chris’ desire to live is what motivates me every day. It is what drives me. It is what led me to partner with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. He is why I share our story. He deserved more. And while I cannot change his outcome with relentless dedication I can help change someone else’s. Everyone deserves a survivor story. - Jen
Aiden and Riley were only 5 years old when Chris died. Young enough to rememberer him but not yet old enough to know him. Our home is filled with memories of Chris playing superheroes and building marble runs, of Elf on the Shelf adventures and Christmas mornings, of simple slow Sunday morning breakfasts filled with silliness and laughter. However, Aiden and Riley struggle to remember these moments with their father. Chris’ name is spoken every day in our home and we blow him a kiss as I turn off the light each evening. We raise money for LLS to create a legacy. A legacy that Aiden and Riley will have as a reminder of their father. A man who deserved so much more than the 5 years he had with the sons he loved so much.

The inside of a 1947 Chevy school bus is the creative refuge for Arlington, Texas artist Scott Dykema, and it also provides the perfect backdrop for his large-scale paintings in which he expertly interplays such diverse media as spray paint, gold and silver leaf, house paints, and stains and varnishes. An intuitive artist with a keen grasp of space, texture, and color interaction, Scott’s highly energetic and even jubilant work ranges from the abstract to studies of such diverse subjects as cowboys, Native Americans, sumo wrestlers, samurai warriors, and geisha women. Through his gallery exposure and personal website, Scott has sold his bold work all over the U.S. and internationally, but this prolific artist’s greatest joy is creating art in his old school bus that people viscerally connect with in a meaningful way.
